Original Abstract
The objective of the experiment was to establish and optimize an electrochemical method of low molecular weight antioxidants assay using square wave voltammetry performed on screen printed sensors with carbon working electrodes. The potential range of square wave voltammetry was 0 - 1.1 V. The optimal values for the assay, potential step 5 mV, amplitude 5 mV, frequency 1 Hz and volume of sample 20 µl, were found. The linearity and sensitivity of the method were verified by standard antioxidants - ascorbic acid, trolox, N-acetylcysteine and melatonin. The suitability for low molecular weight antioxidants` assay in human serum samples was confirmed by standard ferric reducing antioxidant power test (FRAP). Limits of detection were 0.3 mmol/l for ascorbic acid, 0.04 mmol/l for melatonin, 0.03 mmol/l for trolox, and 0.07 mmol/l for N-acetylcysteine. There was apparent a strong correlation between square wave voltammetry and the FRAP value as the correlation coefficient was 0.9778.
