The BUT is involved in major projects of the regional innovation ecosystem in the South Moravian Region, which connect the activities of local government, universities and application sector entities with the aim of creating an environment with a long-term perspective for residents and companies. The most important activities and projects are listed below:
JIC, South Moravian Innovation Centre - an interest association of legal entities, which focuses on the promotion of innovative entrepreneurship and commercial exploitation of research and development results. One of the regularly organized activities is the "Velvet Innovation" meeting, where Start Up projects with interesting potential are presented and connected with potential investors. Regularly, projects originating at the Brno University of Technology or projects in which the university has participated are presented here.
RIS JmK - Regional Innovation Strategy of the South Moravian Region - a concept of the JmK Region and the City of Brno aimed at promoting competitiveness and value creation by using specific innovations. RIS coordinates the innovation policy of the region regardless of the source of funding. It promotes coherence and cooperation between the regional government, universities and the application sphere, including projects with an international scope. An example of a specific project is the "Support for Technical Education" - a joint project of Brno University of Technology, JIC and foreign technical corporations based in JmK. The aim of the project is to support and promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) studies. The project is coordinated by FabLab (JIC) and aims to promote technical education among pupils and students of primary and secondary schools through specific activities, thus creating prerequisites, the basis for the development of technical universities, companies operating in the region and the region itself.
#BRNOREGION - a regional innovation ecosystem supporting technology entrepreneurship and knowledge economy in Brno and JmK, through which companies and institutions jointly increase the attractiveness and visibility of the South Moravian innovation ecosystem in order to attract foreign talent. As the largest technical university in the Czech Republic, consisting of eight independent faculties and three institutes, Brno University of Technology offers a wide range of technical fields of study to applicants. This makes the region more attractive for young foreign students and at the same time it is an irreplaceable entity that contributes to creating conditions for meeting the personnel needs and requirements of the industrial sector in the region. At the same time, when a graduate of the university finds employment in the South Moravian Region, the already close ties between the university and individual employers are strengthened. This fact contributes to the subsequent cooperation between the university and the application sphere in research and development projects.
JINAG - South Moravian Agency for Public Innovations, which aims to support innovation and development of towns and municipalities in the South Moravian Region. The agency focuses on providing know-how, methodological support and consultation to public institutions and organisations with the aim of innovating their services and processes. JINAG's priorities are participation and support for civil society, health, energy and climate protection, digitisation and social services. Examples of concrete activities include the implementation of a European project to build a network of energy advisors for municipalities or a project on the use of assistive technologies to help seniors stay at home as long as possible and increase their safety, comfort and quality of life.
Brno Technology Park - is a PPP project in which the Statutory City of Brno is the majority shareholder. The company cooperates with Brno University of Technology as the founding entity. The Technology Park is a location for use by emerging and existing companies, offering space according to the needs of the customer - from office to special, for example, clean rooms. The Technology Park is being built in the direct vicinity of the six faculties of the Brno University of Technology and this fact contributes to the cooperation of client companies with the university on individual projects. At the same time, it supports the acceleration of student and employee Start Up and Spin Off companies of the BUT by offering suitable spaces.
