Knowledge transfer at BUT operates on two levels. The central level, where the knowledge transfer agenda is handled by the Department of Knowledge Transfer at the rectorate, and the faculties and units level (F/U), where the knowledge transfer agenda is handled by knowledge transfer managers and authorised persons.
The central Rectorate’s Department of Knowledge Transfer (hereinafter referred to as "DKT") serves as a point of contact for the commercial sector, government, professional associations and other organisations. Within the BUT, it has a methodological, support and coordination function for knowledge transfer managers and authorized persons at the faculties and units of the BUT. DKT is part of the Department of Project Support and Knowledge Transfer (DPSKT), which organizationally falls under the Vice-Rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer.

DKT is responsible for:
Knowledge transfer at the BUT and at the faculty and unit level is handled by trained Knowledge Transfer Managers (KTMs) and trained Authorised Persons (APs).
Knowledge Transfer Managers (KTMs) assist the employees of the relevant faculty or unit with the declaration and protection of intellectual property, the process of commercialisation of research results, collaboration with external companies, contract research and other activities related to knowledge transfer at the BUT.
Authorised Persons (APs) assist the employees of the relevant faculty or unit with the registration and management of BUT intellectual property.
