Civil engineering in architecture

The subject matter is the doctorand's formation in the field of architecture. Part of the study consists also in getting grasp of the theoretical relatioships that determine the design of structures. The doctorand gains a comprehensive overview of the problems, emphasis being put on power-saving design of buildings.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Expected is the overview of structural design and detail analysis in the field of building construction. The student should have practical knowledge and experience of implemented constructions that he or she has hitherto gone through in practice. An important prerquisite is the student's capability of creative work, and the ability to analyse problems and find new productive solutions and concepts.

Prerequisites

For successful study, it is considered suitable that the student regularly monitors professional jounals and books on building and architecture. Orientation in foreign
study materials is also welcomed.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The subject's study is concluded by a seminar work. The work will be focused on a special problem of structure and power supply, which the student will subject to theoretical analysis using computation equipment. Mathematical modelling will become a means for finding optimum relations and recognising the interacting factors that participate to a significant extent in the process of creative work.

Aims

The objective is to deepen the knowledge and to make acquainted with the principles of the theoretical analysis of the complex problems of power consumption and building construction.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance of lectures is obligatory. Missed lectures can be made up for only by agreement with the teacher.
