The Art of the Object - winter

The aim of this seminar is to describe by means of phenomenology and philosophical-historical analysis the construction of imanent art category (that of the object) which defines the specific kind of relevant artworks. The methodology will unite historical and theoretical approach to parallel, inverse, and complementary phenomena connected to immanent artistic issues and to broader discourse on art.

- the object in pre-war and interwar Czech avantgarde
- the magical object
- concrete objects as "morphological metaphors" (Railich - photogpraphy]
- the natural object (Skala)
- objets trouves (Rykr)
- Duchamp's ready-made
- the object and its found form (the sphere, the cube, etc..)
- the object in 1950s nad 1960s art, pop art
- surrealism

- sulpture and object
- sculptures as obejcts, wax sculptures

Aims

To provide characteristics of 20th century art obejcts as a specific artistic kind. We will confront formal andreceptive differences between objects and sculptures, objects and images; we will discuss the relationship of a specific medium to specific space, material, etc. The historical approach of object art as a paralell medium representing the subversive aspect of europeantradition of representation is one of the "anti-art" strategies.
