Communication

The course focuses on relevant psychological knowledge necessary for understanding of social communication principles and practical application of these principles to work in the sphere of tax consultancy. Emphasis is placed on mastering of the effective communication strategy, as well as on application of the acquired knowledge when working with customers, in team cooperation, in dealing with authorities, etc.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will acquire relevant psychological knowledge from the field of social capability and competence primarily aimed at social communication patterns. They will have a clear idea of fundamental theoretical models and strategies of human communication as well as their practical application. In seminars they will consolidate and develop their skills necessary to make the process of social communication more effective in common situations as well as in demanding situations at work.

Conditions for awarding the course-unit credit: Active participation in seminars, team presentation on a given topic and individual presentation on a topic prefered.

Course curriculum

1. Introduction to the course, definition and importance of social communication. Outline of the course.
2. Characteristics of personality. Personality structure, ontogenetic development of personality; possibilities of recognition and influencing personality.
3. Characteristics of personality performance and their influence on intrapersonal and interpersonal communication.
4. Motivational dynamics of personality and its influence on intrapersonal and interpersonal communication.
5. Profile characteristics of personality and their influence on intrapersonal and interpersonal communication – part I
6. Profile characteristics of personality and their influence on intrapersonal and interpersonal communication – part II
7. Social perception patterns and their consequences. Possibilities of the application of these patterns in order to increase the efficiency of social communication.
8. Social communication in a social contact: communication process; mutual relations among creativity, communication, motivation and stimulation and their consequences
9. Verbal and non-verbal communication.
10. Basic communication skills and possibilities of their cultivation and development
11. Fundamentals of social communication theoretical models (assertiveness and transaction analysis) and possibilities of their application in order to increase the efficiency of social communication.
12. cwork contacts, influence of the organizational structure and relations on the intradepartmental communication, preparation and organization of business negotiations, basic rules of an efficient presentation.
13. Social communication in multicultural environment. Specifics of interpersonal communication in various national cultures.

Aims

The aim of the course is to provide students with practically applicable knowledge and skills regarding social communication and key factors influencing the process and efficiency of the communication. By means of practical exercises the course also focuses on consolidation and development of skills necessary for the effective communication with customers and colleagues.
