Compensatory and Body Shaping Exercises

The subject covers the theory and practice of the techniques of exercise both, with the equipment and without, to gain practical and theoretical knowledge of exercise planning mainly focused on the development of strength, strength-and-speed abilities, and strength-and-endurance abilities. Compensatory exercises are included in the subject syllabus as a method of prevention of muscle dysbalances, or else injury, or as a part of recovery phase after acute or chronic diseases of the movement system (as a consequence of one-sided overstrain or sport injury).

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will get the knowledge of the principals of the muscle strenght and endurance developement, and the sport nutrition. They will be able to deal with the muscle dysbalances by means of and appropriate exercise plan including streching. At the same time the students will get the knowledge of the organization and running of the facilities providing fitness services.

Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology; knowledge of the work with own body and related skills

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Awarding of credit:
For the awarding of a classified credit, active participation in the tuition, submission of a written task from a selected topic (50 points) and the successful passing of a test of knowledge (50 points) are required.

Form of the examination and final classification of the subject:
Submission of a written task from a selected topic (50 points) and the successful passing of a test of knowledge (50 points). In total, a maximum of 100 points can be obtained within the framework of the classification, while the classification is as follows:

- The fundamentals of safety during strengthening exercises for fitness. Terminology and basic terms used in strengthening exercises for fitness.
- Body building machines, their construction, function and maintenance.
- Individual particularities of people who do exercise.
- Didactics and methodology of strengthening exercises for fitness.
- Basic facilities used in strengthening exercises for fitness.
- Use of equipment in strengthening exercises for fitness.
- Dumbbells and one-hand dumbbells.
- Diagnostics in strengthening exercises for fitness.
- Planning and creation of exercise plans.
- Stretching in strengthening exercises for fitness.
- Specifics of diet in strengthening exercises for fitness. Use of performance-enhancing drugs.

Aims

The objective of the subject is to learn the techniques of exercise both with the equipment and without; to gain practical as well as theoretical knowledge of exercise planning mainly focused on the development of strength, strength-and-speed abilities, and strength-and-endurance abilities.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Active participation in practical lessons. Continuous preparation for the practical lessons. Production of a written task - exercise plan, model of a fitness centre, etc. Test of knowledge. Any absence requires an official letter giving the reason for absence - substitution for the tuition missed in the case of more than one duly excused absence.
