Specialization: Movement Activities by Health Limitations

The subject will prepare the students in such a way that they will obtain a comprehensive overview of the possibilities regarding movement activities for citizens with health limitations. On the basis of previously acquired knowledge and skills, they will be able to bring people with a handicap closer to an active way of life.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

After the course, the students will become competent to:
• assessment of the degree of the health challenge with respect to physical activity, suggestion for further examination by a specialist
• recommendation and providing information about further organizations and counseling in physical activities for health-challenged individuals
• assessment of the biological, psychological, social and economic limits of physical regime in health challenged individuals with respect to their leisure activities as well as work environment
• recommendation of appropriate alternative physical activity or adaptation with respect to present possibilities and limits of the individual
• project management of commercial treatment of physical activities in short- and long-term events and stays for individuals and groups

Prerequisites

Practically applicable knowledge and skills from the studied physical training subjects and biology and medical subjects within the framework of the student's bachelor's studies

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

CREDIT REQUIREMENTS
1. 80% active participation in practical classes, participation in discussions, fulfilling individual work tasks, demonstration of individual study
2. meeting 75% points in total in 3 pen-and-pencil tests

EXAM REQUIREMENTS
1. 2 oral questions about theoretical background of the course
2. presentation of partial area of the project (project is worked out by 3 to 4 students)
3. both parts of the exam must be evaluated at least E (according to classification scale), to get final evaluation

Project focus:
1. sport event/stay for individuals with health challenge
2. support for barrier-free BUT
3. support for civilization diseases prevention – motivation to active transfer of inhabitants from the perspective of urbanism other focus

Project writing requirements:
Project will be worked out by a team of 3 to 4 students who divide the roles between themselves: project manager – coordinates the project, knows the objective, purpose, expected benefits, potential weaknesses and risks etc.; financial manager – deals with the financial issues of the project, makes calculations, budget, prognosis; marketing manager – is responsible for promotion, communication, PR, HR; specialist adviser – checks the effectiveness of the project, knows the field and the targeted population etc.

Project presentation requirements:
1. during project presentation, each team member presents his/her are by means of oral presentation using Power point presentation, flip-chart, hand-outs etc.; it depends on the team members if their presentations are uniform or not;
2. the duration of the entire presentation must not exceed 20 minutes;
3. the exam may be public
4. 2 to 3 teams may present their project in one exam

7. PA in neuromuscular disorders and motor functions II
8. PA při mental disorders
9. PA při sensual dirorders
10. Field trip to institution providing people with health limitations with physical activities

The practical classes will be related on the topics discussed in lectures, mainly the economical and organizational aspects will be trained.

Aims

The aim of the subject is prepare the students to work with physically challenged people in physical activities both, with respect to the appropriate choice of the activity as well as economical and organizational perspective.
