Learning outcomes of the course unit

Completing the course of Organic Chemistry II in connection with course Organic Chemistry I, students acquire the complex knowledge of structure, reactivity and stereochemistry of hydrocarbon derivatives and heterocyclic compounds. The knowledge acquired enables to work both in research and practice of organic chemistry, in control laboratories and state administration authorities.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of the General Chemistry course and basic inorganic chemistry. General knowledge of high-school Organic chemistry based on the text-book Chemie II.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Completing the tutorial of Organic Chemistry requires passing 12 written tests. Those, who successfully pass at least 7 tests during the semester with more than 60%, may get credit automatically. Alternatively, students are obliged to pass another test at the end of term with gain at least 60%.
The examination consists from written test and oral examination. In the written part is tested knowledge fromOrganic Chemistry II, in oral exam then knowledge from the whole Organic chemistry.

Aims

The course is acquiring deeper knowledge of organic compounds reactivity. The course is connected with the previous course Organic Chemistry I, which represents necessary prerequisite for understanding the subject matter of this course. The aim of the course is to understand the structure and reactivity of various functional groups bound at various carbon skeletons, influence of skeleton upon reactivity of the group and the group upon reactivity of skeleton.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Completing the tutorial of Organic chemistry requires the attendance and successfully passed all class exams. The examination consists from written test and oral examination.
