Sustainable Development

Basic principles of sustainable development concepts, history, the concept of sustainable development principles, main objectives, values ​​and principles, strategies. Effects of threatening natural sphere. Assessment of the criticality (probability of damage to the affected system). The influence of human activities on the ecosystem (energy, mining, metallurgy, chemical and food industry, agriculture and forestry, transport). Indicators of sustainable development. Global problems of mankind (climate change, ozone hole, pollution of air, water, oceans, soils, biodiversity change. Significant declarations, conventions sustainable development. Activities at national and international levels to achieve sustainable development.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will obtain new knowledge and understanding in the following areas

1st Students will increase their knowledge and understanding of sustainable development issues and will be able to apply their knowledge to assess the criticality of the area (probability of damage to the affected system).
2nd Students will know and understand the impact of anthropogenic activities on ecosystems and will be able to determine the individual effects of anthropogenic activities on ecosystems.
3rd Students will be able to understand the current methods and activities to achieve sustainable development at the national and European level.

Prerequisites

General compendium of knowledges. Basic knowledge of chemistry, ecology and environmental chemistry.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Classified credit is awarded on the basis of submission of satisfactory seminar work selected issues of sustainable development and its oral presentation.

3. Content of sustainable development.
4. The aims of plans to achievement of sustainable development.
5. Indicators of sustainable development.
6. Threat natural sphere, probability of dengerous site.
7. Depth profiling of critically site (probability of dengerous).
8. Impact antropogenic activities of nature, ecosystems.
9. Importance of SD in relationship of impact.
10. Activities of achievement of sustainable development.

Aims

The aim of the course is to provide students with basic information and explanation of the principles of sustainable development, an explanation of anthropogenic impacts on the ecosystem, defining characteristics of a sustainable community, explain the ways of achieving sustainable development, clarifying environmental assessment of indicators of sustainable development. It will also be explained by the integration of sustainable development in scientific, technological, legal, economic, social and political areas and will include basic activities within the European Union and the Czech Republic in the field of sustainable development.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Part of the training process of the semester project on issues related to sustainable development of the selected topics. Teaching is supported eLearning courses, within which are available to students learning support including electronic textbooks, presentations, lectures, and other complementary materials. For processing semester project, which is an integral part of the evaluation, are in the second half semester reserved consulting terms under which it is possible to consult the selection of the work and content of work at the end of the semester to present the work.
