Cartography I

Cartography information theory, cartographic languge.
Cartography generalization (planimetry, elevation, description). Basics of cartometry. Digital cartography, vector and raster presentation, INTRANET/INTERNET. Development of the Czech and world cartography. Theme cartography. Cartography information funds. Cartography in process of Europe integration.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will manage basic theoretical knowledge of cartography, thematic and digital cartography included. They will be introduced with the state map works of the Czech republic and they will achieve basic overview about Czech and world's cartography development and about digital cartographic works, which are part of national geoinformatic systems.

Methods of cadastral and topographic mapping, basic problems of spherical trigonometry, principles of Computer Science

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Lectures with presentation on Moodle, exercise programs with individual tasks.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

For completing the course should be submitted digital and analog protocols and complete control test of the exercises and successfully pass an oral examination.

1. Definition and structure of cartography.
2. Geometrical base of cartographic works, projections.
3. Contents of cartographic works.
4. Theory of cartographic information.
5. Cartographic interpretation and generalization.
6. Cartographic creation and production.
7. Themathic cartography. Cartometry.
8. Digital cartography.
9. Geographical information systems, modelling of objects, data-bases.
10. State map works in the Czech republic, devlopment Czech and world cartography, legislative.

Acquisition of comprehensive knowledge of cartography and GIS.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
