Information Systems and Information Management

Implementation of information systems in firm: functions of information management, business information strategy and information needs analysis. Method of planning and management of information systems. Implementation of information system in a company with an emphasis on demand document creation and assembly of IS evaluation criteria in the construction industry. Internet Communication Strategy. Use of IT in construction. Marketing on the Internet. Electronic auctions and their utilization in construction, comparison with traditional selection process. Utilization of buying and selling auctions. The movement of documents in the enterprise focus based on workflow systems. Enterprise Content Management and its particular components. Information systems in the insurance industry with an emphasis on property insurance, fraud detection systems. Security of electronic communications, electronic signature, tools for secure storage of assets. Tuition is focused on analysis of particular needs of firm and implementation of its information strategy and the use of modern technologies in the field of corporate purchasing.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Enhanced knowledge on company management, ability to evaluate quality of IS and SW product, knowledge on data and information flow in company, purchasing management, ability tom operate electronic reverse auctions

Prerequisites

Knowledge of firm management, marketing, principles of data processing, value analysis, knowledge about current trends in information technology, ability to model reality at application of IS.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Award of the credit is conditioned by participation on practices, handing in and defending of semestral work and successfully passed written test (min. 50 points, total sum 100 points). Written test - series of questions oriented in general knowledge and their aplication in examples.

Aims

To obtain the comprehensive view at business processes, ability to analyze pragmatic processes and information flows inside organization. To acquire the ability to apply knowledge at integration of IS to the company environment.
