Building Constructions and urban planning

Introduction into the structural design of buildings constructions. Students will learn the basic knowledge of purpose, function and design of buildings and structures and of application of knowledge in the field of geodesy and their interconnections with buildings constructions. Output of this course is elaboration of the study the building construction in concrete conditions given area.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students are to acquaint with the issue of building construction design and realization including project drawings and valid legislation and with application of knowledge in the field of geodesy and their interconnections with buildings constructions. The output of the course is elaboration of project of structural design of the building construction including the situation for the building placement in terrain of declination.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Prerequisite for the exam is to obtain credit on the basis of preparing project documentation of structural studie of the building. Exam will consist of the a written part and an oral part in accordance with lectures.

Course curriculum

1.Types of building constructions. Main constructions in building-terminology. Basic external influences affected building constructions. Importance of standarts.
2.Structural systems - prefabricated systems, monolithical skeletons, combined skeleton systems. Material variants. Requirements statical, thermal protection and energy saving , fire protection, protection of health, security of habitants, economics.
3.-4.Vertical load-bearing structures – masonry, materials, types of mortars. Partitions – masonry, monolithic, prefabricated partition blocks.
5.Staircases, ramps, elevators, ladders - terminology.
6.-7.Horizontal load-bearing structures – terminology. Reinforced concrete rings, lintels. Additional constructions - attics, balconies, bay windows.
8.Chimneys, ventilation, dilatation.
9.Foundations – laying out the object, excavations, shallow foundations, deep foundations.
10.Roofing of buildings – roof trusses. Classification of roofs, main structural parts and components, types of the roof dewatering.
11.Roofing of buildings – flat roofs, basic terminology-structural desing principles, flat roof dewatering.
12.Surface finishings – floor finishings, soffits, windows, doors and gates. Insulations.

Aims

The subject involves master basic terminology of structure and construction principles influence on materials.
Students introduction into problematic of building construction, namely from plan project documentation, to own carrying out.

6. Excavations and foundation construction. Coordinating construction situation
7. Vertical load-bearing structure including exterior walls of the building. The spatial bracing construction
8. Horizontal structures. Types of floor structures. Overhanging and receding structures
9. Structural systems for roofing structures.
10. Constructions for different height level - stairs, ramps
