System of Quality Assurance and ISO Standards

This course is to acquaint students with the basic principles and applications of quality systems ISO standards.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Acquisition of knowledge sufficient for implementation of quality systems in analytical laboratories and for the use of ISO norms in the field of quality and also in the field of determination of selected analytes.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course uses teaching methods in form of Lecture - 1 teaching hour per week, seminars - 1 teaching hour per week. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available to teachers and students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Graded credit-course unit will be given on the base of elaboration of semester work and its succesfull defence.

Course curriculum

Block 1:
General aspects of quality of products and services, quality attributes, procedural approaches, customer, responsibility for product, certification of products, laws related to quality assurance systems in the Czech Republic and in the European Union, the processes of international standardisation.
Block 2:
The policy and system of quality assurance in chemical laboratories, the items of quality system in testing laboratories, requirements for technical capability, accreditation in testing laboratories, evaluation criteria and related rules.
Block 3:
Methods of quality management in laboratory; yield, blank tests, repeatability and regulatory diagrams, documentation and validation of methods, operation characteristics, order of analyses, calibration procedures, reference materials, expression of uncertainties.
Block 4:
Documantation of QA/QC system. Quality manual, Standard operation procedure. Quality Plan, Quality Policy. Internal and external audit. Control of nonconforming product and service.

Aims

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with quality systems as currently imposed by the applicable ISO standards. Emphasis is placed on the application of ISO standards in the field of services, especially in the chemical laboratory.

Elaboration of seminar project on given topic from the problematic of quality systems
Presentation of this work and its succsesfull defence - quality manual
