Psychology Of Creative Thinking

The course focuses especially on the following topics:
Defining the term of creativity, qualities of a creative personality, process of creation, methods of creative thinking, and barriers to the creative activity.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will acquire the following skills and knowledge: structure of the personality of a creative person, characteristics of creative process, barriers to the creative thinking, methods applied to elicit original ideas.

Prerequisites

Mastering the process of thinking and solving problems by conventional means.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The graded credit is subject to the following conditions: submission of seminar work treating creatively chosen problem. Scales for the assessment of work: 40% originality, 30% correct solution, 20% applicability and 10% benefit - value of solution.

Course curriculum

Topics of lectures are the following:
- Significance of a creative approach to life and work
- Characteristics of conventional and creative solution of problems
- Creative personality and its features
- Characteristics of the idea creating process and its stages
- Barriers of creative thinking
- Basic methods of creative solution of problems

Topics of exercise are the following:
- Possibilities and limits of creativity identification
- Practical and methodological challenges of creativity testing
- Test of fluency, flexibility and originality
- Ways and methods to overcoming barriers of creative thinking
- Brainstorming, brainwriting
- Case studies of companies requiring creative solutions

Aims

The main objective of the course is to make students familiar with patterns, conditions and prerequisites of creative activity. They will develop their creative abilities and a positive attitude in conflicts.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Submitting the requested materials in declared control days.
Absent students have to submit requested materials in an alternative term.
