Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will obtain genereal view of conditions of existence of colloidal systems, of properties and preparation of the most important types of those systems and their significance for industrial practice.

Prerequisites

Basic physical chemistry, particularly thermodynamics, electrochemistry, and colloid chemistry.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course uses teaching methods in form of Lecture - 2 teaching hours per week. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available to teachers and students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Evaluation is based on oral presentation and written exam. The presentation should report on selected topics from applied colloid chemistry in about 10 minutes, clearly presenting and emphasizing specific colloidal aspects and consequences of the selected topic. The presentation is followed by discussion (5 minutes) which can include also theoretical principles of presented topic. The presentation should be sent to the teacher electronically. The subject and its elaboration can be consulted with teacher and finally is presented during lectures. Suitable examples of presentation topics are given during the first lecture. The written exam consists of ten questions which should be answered in one phrase each and within the time limit of 50 min in total. Both parts has the same weight; in evaluation of presentations the technical quality has the weight 70% and the presentation quality 30%.
