Colloidal transport systems

FCH-MCO_KTSAcad. year: 2015/2016

Colloidal systems for transport of active substances in nature or applied technologies. Function of these systems, control possibilities of transport of active substances and the dependence on conditions. Concrete examples of systems based on humic acids and hyaluronic acid. Possibilities of preparation of colloidal transport systems.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Basic equations of momentum and mass trasfer in colloidal systems, their utilization in applied chemistry.

Prerequisites

basic knowledge of mathematics, physical and colloidal chemistry

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course uses teaching methods in form of Lecture - 2 teaching hours per week. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available to teachers and students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The exam has written and oral parts. The written test is focused on general knowledge in transport processes (limit 50 %). The oral part is the lecture - an example of practical application of the knowledge on a real problem.

Course curriculum

Characteristic of transport phenomena: basic quantities, methods of study, balance of physical properties. Momentum trasfer: basic equations, momentum balance, laminar flow of isotropis viscous liquid, initial and boundary conditions. Mass transfer: basic equations, n-component continuum, balance of basic quantities, initial and boundary conditions. Molecular mass transport: concentration diffusion, thermodiffusion, barodiffusion. Convection. Transport through cellular membrane. Application of theory of transport phenomena on real systems in nature and applied technologies: Examples of systems based on humic and hyaluronic acids, their main aspects, function od preparation possibilities. Humic acids as transport system for plant nutrition. Hyaluronic acid as transport system in biomedical applications.
