Road Accident Analysis II

Broadening theoretical foundation of the road accident analysis on top of the knowledge gained from the Road Accident Analysis I and application of these methods on particular types of road accidents.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

After completing the subject, students will be able to independently carry out a complex analysis of accident plot, determine technical cause of the accident and deal with options of averting conflict of individual participants.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of basics of vehicle movement mechanics, laws of conservation, Newton’s laws and their application

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching is carried out through lectures and seminars. Lectures consist of interpretations of basic principles, methodology of given discipline, problems and their exemplary solutions. Seminars particularly support practical mastery of subject matter presented in lectures or assigned for individual study with the active participation of students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Credit conditions - obtaining at least 150 points out of 200 possible (2 × 50 continuous test in about the 4th and 8th week of the semester, 100 per semester project).
Exam will consist of written part and oral part.

1. Mechanics of the collision of vehicles
2. Determination of EES and motivity and impulses balance diagram
3. Graphic methods of the road accident analysis, MDRHI, rhomboid section method, energetic ring method
4. Graphic methods of the road accident analysis – application on particular cases including the frontal impact with rotation
5. Graphic methods of the road accident analysis – DRHI + EES method and the zone intersection method
6. Accidents with participation of motorcycles
7. Personal vehicle accidents – crossroad accidents
8. Truck accidents, collisions with animals and low visibility accidents
9. Collisions and vehicle toppling over
10. Expert opinion on the road accident analysis, interpretation of the conclusions
11. Insurance fraud
12. Simulative programme and a spreadsheet – their significance and support for road accident analysis
13. Biomechanics, injuries, motion of the crew, consultation with forensic doctor

Aims

The aim of this subject is gaining experience with the application of physical laws on certain solved partial tasks and then their usage in complex analysis.
