The course is focused on characteristic features of professional communication. It provides students with the relevant specialised language structures and professional communication skills they will need in the workplace.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

After passing this course students should be able to communicate in German independently, at B2 level. The knowledge and skills gained should contribute to more fluent speaking and communication in personal, academic as well as professional environments.

Prerequisites

The course requires a very good knowledge of general language at least at B1+/ B2 level.

Language instruction as an extension of basic professional curriculum.

Course-unit credit is awarded on condition of having attended the seminars actively and completed all tasks, as well as fulfilled the requirements of continuous control.
The examination at level B2 CEFR consists of a written and an oral part. The written part tests global and detailed listening and reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary of the general language and of German for Specific Purposes.
The oral part is a dialogue on the current topics of conversation.

Aims

The aim of the course is to reinforce individual abilities of students to express themselves in German. The previously gained knowledge of grammar and vocabulary will be revised and systematically expanded in real contexts.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at seminars is compulsory and is systematically checked by the teacher. Students are allowed to miss two seminars. Regular attendance and active participation in classes are necessary conditions for taking the examination.
