Building physics 2

FAST-BHA030Acad. year: 2022/2023

Course is focused on mastering of selected software for stationary and non-stationary heat conduction simulations in 2D and 3D temperature field.
Students will get acquainted with the basic range of building physics tasks during the course. The knowledge will be used in follow-up courses.

Department

Institute of Building Structures (PST)

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Be able to work with software for thermal engineering calculations.

Prerequisites

Fundamental knowledge of building design, building physics, building technical systems, mathematics and physics.

Co-requisites

Knowledge of mathematics and physics, work with CAD systems and with PC, basics of technical equipment of buildings.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations. In a fun way, to provide students with practical experience while working on thermal technical evaluations. Show the possibilities of the work environment in these programs and practice basic examples.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Successful conclusion of the course requiers:
- completing exercises with compulsory attendance,
- elaboration of all assignments,
- granting credit.

Course curriculum

The subject only has exercises, so the syllabus is dealt with in the exercise section.

Work placements

Work placements are not required in this type of course. It is suitable if the student already has some practical experience (job in a design office where he solved similar tasks).

Aims

Students will get an overview of the basic issues of building physics modeling. Students will be able to:
- recognize and work with different software,
- solve basic problems in building physics in 2D and 3D
- assess stationary and non-stationary processes,
- determine the suitability of specific modeling methods for different tasks,
- perform and evaluate computer simulatioons.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Extent and forms are specified by guarantor’s regulation updated for every academic year.

Recommended optional programme components

Students during the course could cooperate on the research projects focused on the assessment of the building structures.
