Entry knowledge

The subject knowledge on the secondary school level is required.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

The subject Electromagnetic compatibility is evaluated in the following way: In order to receive credit, it is necessary to measure 1 laboratory task and submit 7 homework assignments. Laboratory teaching is evaluated during the semester and a maximum of 9 points can be obtained for it. A maximum of 21 points can be awarded for correct completion of homework. The final exam consists of two parts (written and oral) and is evaluated for a total of 70 points. To successfully pass the exam, a minimum score of 35 points out of a possible 70 must be achieved.
Evaluation of activities is specified by a regulation, which is issued by the lecturer responsible for the course annually.

Aims

The aim of the course is to make students familiar with the fundamentals of EMC, its history, basic concepts and problems. EMI signal sources, natural and man-made EM environment, disturbing signals. Coupling mechanisms of EMI signals, arts of coupling, radiated emission. Filtering, isolation and suppression, EMI reduction techniques, EMC filters. EM shielding, shielding effectiveness, magnetic shielding, cable shield. EMI measurements, EMS testing, methods and instruments. EMC standards and regulations, international, national and military standards. Selected EMC problems. Practical training in EMC test laboratory.
The graduate is able (1) understand basic the fundamentals of EMC, basic concepts and problems of EMC. He or she is able to identify (2) EMI signal sources of disturbing signals, coupling mechanisms of EMI signals, arts of coupling, radiated emission. He or she is able to design (3) filtering, isolation and suppression of Emi signals. The graduate is able to use (4) techniques for EMI reduction, EMC filtering, EM shielding, shielding effectiveness, magnetic shielding and cable shield. The graduate is able to (5) provide EMI measurements, EMS testing and used methods and instruments according to EMC standards and regulations, international, national and military standards.
