Geographic Information Systems

GIS is an effective tool for managing, analyzing, and presenting data that is widely used in the industry. The output is individually assigned seminar work, processing selected geospatial aspects, related to the original assignment of the dissertation.

Entry knowledge

Knowledge of working in a general CAD system such as AutoCAD or MicroStation.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

The credit is awarded on the basis of the final presentation of semestral projects, which are graduated individually in both parts of the course.
Continuous processing of tasks min. to 50%, preparation of the semester project and its final presentation.

Aims

The aim of the first part of the subject is to provide information on the available tools and the possibilities of using geographic information systems (GIS) in spatial planning.
The aim of the second part of the subject is the practical preparation of graphics (informative map and graph) on the basis of topographic data related to doctoral research for publication as a part of the elaborated journal article.
The PhD student gains expertise to work with geographic information systems and the ability to obtain and display topographical and geospatial data in the form of an editable map.
