Methodology of design process 1

FaVU-1MDP1Acad. year: 2023/2024

Through lectures and model practical assignments, students will be introduced to methods for problem ideation, research, and analysis. These are based on design approaches that focus on interaction with the human user. For solving complex contemporary problems, these methods will be reflected and complemented with current approaches of transitive, speculative and system-oriented design.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

The course ends with an exam. The following conditions are set for the award of the assessment:

- active participation in class (max. 2 absences)

- passing an oral examination: debate on the contextualisation of the methods learned in the course in the students' own design practice.

Classes are held in the classrooms of the KTDU FaVU BUT in the hours determined by the timetable. Attendance is compulsory (2 permitted unexcused absences). Higher number of absences can be compensated by submitting an alternative assignment after agreement with the teachers.

Aims

The aim of the course is to make students aware of the processuality of design and to introduce them to the methods used in contemporary Euro-American design practice across media.

The student understands design as a processual activity.

The student knows the basic principles of design thinking.

The student is aware of opportunities for involving diverse stakeholders in the design process.

The student is able to apply in its own practice the methods discussed in the course for problem ideation, research and analysis.
