For a comprehensive understanding of metallic materials it is necessary to know the basic structure of the metal grid, metal crystal and the possibilities of its failure. This basic knowledge must be followed by the theory of solid solutions and intermetallic compounds, since the usability of pure metals in industry is minimal and the vast majority of metallic construction materials are alloys of two, but usually more metals. These complex metal systems have a number of structural elements that significantly affect the mechanical and corrosion properties of the material. For example, chromium carbides are very important in tool and martensitic stainless steels, but their presence in austenitic stainless steels is undesirable. Understanding the importance of individual structural elements is important for understanding the composition of the alloys used, but also for designing new alloys. The course Metallic Material II focuses on the description of basic structural elements of metal systems, the importance of solid solutions, the principle of alloying, the production of the most important metals, heat treatment of alloyed and non-alloy steels, heat treatment of nonferrous metals, corrosion behavior of metals and the principle of complexity of metallic materials, especially steel.
