Cross Cultural Issues in the European Human Resource Management

Hlavním cílem předmětu je seznámit studenty se specifiky řízení lidských zdrojů v mezinárodním kontextu. Důraz je kladen na získání znalostí z dané oblasti, jakož i rozvoj interkulturní kompetence, která je nezbytným předpokladem pro působení v mezinárodním prostředí nadnárodních korporací.
Topics lectures are as follows:
1. Introoduction to the course. Course Schedule. Conditions for Evaluation. International Human Resource Management and its Specifics.
2. Key terminology: IHRM versus domestic HRM, HRM activities, expatriate management.
3. Strategies in IHRM and international HR policy.
4. International Workforce Planning. Main components and process of WFP.
5. International Recruitment and Selection. Recruitment process. Recruitment methods.
6. International training and development. Career management.
7. Motivation and its specifics in an international environment.
8. International compensation. Equalization Benefits. Approaches to international compensation.
9. Outplacement.
10. National culture and its dimensions. Concept of cultural standards
11. Diversity Management. Trends and current issues on diversity that affect management and HRM. Leadership.
12. Specifics of selected European cultures in the context of IHRM
13. Summary and conclusions

Pravidla hodnocení a ukončení předmětu

Students are obliged to present and defend an assignment on the topic "Specifics of Selected National Culture Related to the Human Resource Management".
Content, presentation skills, answering questions and written paper are evaluated as follow:
* assignment 40%
* presentation 20%
* final written exam 30%
* active participation 10%

Regular attendance and active participation in lectures are recommended.

Učební cíle

a) To enable understanding of national culture theory and develop awareness of cultural diversity in international business
b) To improve the participants' personal effectiveness and self-development skills for the purpose of cross-cultural management
c) To enable participants to understand the influence of cultural issues on management and company performance in international context.
d) To develop the skills of using the theory of cross-cultural management in international context
a) Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of national cultures in global business environment
b) Develop critical understanding of a cultural diversity and influence of culture on business performance
c) To improve personal effectiveness and self-development skills in the context of adaptation to a specific culture
d) Apply the methodology of the culture management theory to specific cross-cultural situations in multicultural organizations
e) Develop cognitive skills (analyses, syntheses, concluding, logical thinking) that managers need to operate in international environment
