Originální abstrakt
This study investigates characteristics of spray generated by a pressure swirl atomizer (spill-return type) which is designed for a small-sized jet engine using shadowgraphy and Phase-Doppler Anemometry (PDA). The purpose of this study is to find out an influence of a spill-return orifice geometry on (an) atomization quality. Two different geometries of the spill-return orifice were tested in terms of spray stability on a cold test bench. The former atomizer uses the direct axial spill-return orifice located in a centre of a swirl chamber, whileere the modified atomizer contains an obstacle blocking axial flow through the spill-return orifice. PDA measurement yields drop-size distribution and velocity data, whileere the shadowgraphy unveils a break-up process in detail. Performed measurements reveals significant differences in spray characteristics as well as differences in spraybreak-up stability. Results of this study showleadsato necessity of more detailed investigation (in the area) of influences of spill-return orifice geometry on an atomization process.
