The classification of surface and lateral waves on flat and curved surfaces is performed. Theoretical results are considered mainly, but also the illustrative example of recent measurement in the hall of Austerlitz monument is also given. The experimental measurements confirmed the existence of the effect of whispering gallery in the studied hall. The comparison of the experimental data and theoretical calculations confirmed the presence of the whispering-gallery waves.
