On the project

The project is directed to use aerosol assisted chemical vapor deposition (AACVD), a technique suited to industrial manufacture, to grow noble metal (Au, Pt, Pd, Ag) nanoparticle functionalized nanostructured metal oxides (WO3, SnO2, TiO2, CeO2, ZnO, In2O3), with the aim to integrate these nanomaterials in microdevices (gas sensors, biosensors) and other advanced applications, which rely on the surface and catalytic properties of materials (energy storage/production, self-cleaning surfaces). The ability to easily fabricate nanomaterial-based microdevices using an industrially relevant technique is currently not achievable under the state-of-the-art. This project addresses this by exploring the possibility to enable technologies for the production of high functional nanomaterials, using low cost and scalable methods, which are perfectly compatible with present microfabrication methods. This project will contribute to advances in the design and fabrication of new components, devices and systems allowing improvements in diverse areas of industry, quality of life, safety and security. The project is timely and goes in line with the objectives of the NMP work programme 2013 and with those of the H2020.
