Building Constructions

FASTAbbreviation: SAcad. year: 2011/2012Specialisation: Structural Engineering Design and Analysis

Programme: Civil Engineering

Length of Study: 1.5 years

Profile

To educate specialists who are capable of immediate qualified employment in the area of design and execution of Building Constructions. During the first semester, the students will further expand their theoretical knowledge, which is an essential prerequisite for the further development of their specialised knowledge and skills. Further specialised engineering subjects in the field of specialisation will gradually be introduced into the study plan, in which more detailed knowledge regarding new approaches to the solution of building and engineering problems in the area of building constructions will be gained. The focus of the course will gradually shift towards the areas of the field of specialization that students have selected for their professional career and in which they see the fulfilment of their personal abilities as well as the goal for their future work in engineering. When solving the set tasks, students are encouraged as part of their tuition to use the newest knowledge from science, construction techniques and technologies. Under the expert and methodical supervision of their teacher, students are motivated to take an independent and creative approach, and at the end of their studies they will produce a diploma thesis under the teacher's leadership in which they will prove their inventive erudition. During the defence of the diploma thesis, as part of an expert-level discussion, their specialised knowledge from the studied field of specialization is also evaluated, as well as the ability to apply the gained knowledge to solve a specific engineering task.
