Study aims

The aim of the study of the follow-up master's program "Automotive Electronics and Electromobility" is to acquire and significantly expand theoretical and practical knowledge in a wide field of automotive electronics, including communication, control and power supply systems or autonomous control systems and electric drives. The focus and comprehensive concept of this study program aims to prepare graduates for creative work, especially in research, development, design, construction, operation and verification of electronics for automotive applications, but also for work in management and managerial positions in companies or organizations, whose activities are related to automotive electronics. Moreover, providing a quality basis for follow-up doctoral studies at any university is another goal. Teaching is therefore fully provided in English.

Graduate profile

The graduate of the study program "Automotive Electronics and Electromobility" will gain the knowledge necessary for creative work in the field of research, development and design of automotive electronics with an emphasis on electromobility. The graduate is acquainted with the methods and procedures used in the design, testing and verification of the reliability of automotive electronics as a whole and its components. The broad scope of the study program, including all essential electronic components, will enable graduates to understand their interaction and the complexity of the entire system. An integral part of the educational process is the involvement of specialists from practice in teaching and practical training in partner companies. Together with individual and team projects and compulsory laboratory exercises, the graduate will also gain the necessary practical skills. The study program also includes language training focused on terminology used in the field, which will enable graduates to work in foreign companies or in international teams.

The graduate is able to creatively apply new knowledge, use modern development tools, testing and verification procedures and is able to design partial components of automotive electronics, which can interconnect by system solutions. The graduate is able to combine knowledge of communication systems (V2X, satellite), control systems (sensors, actuators, automotive networks) with autonomous driving algorithms, or power systems (motors, batteries) and can evaluate the reliability of particular components and the entire system. The above-mentioned areas can optionally be extended to include cyber security, multimedia technology, lighting technology, vehicle charging infrastructure and a number of other fields. The graduate will gain experience with practice in companies focused on the development and production of automotive electronics.

The graduate is qualified to independently define and creatively solve theoretical or practical problems in the field, plan engineering activities of creative nature and propose procedures for their implementation, independently solve complex engineering tasks related to the development, production, and verification of automotive electronics. The graduate is able to effectively acquire new information in the field, expand their professional knowledge, skills and abilities and apply them to the given problem. He is able to communicate professionally in English.

The graduate's knowledge is continuously verified by exams in compulsory and compulsory optional courses. The study is completed by a state final examination (SFE). The graduate demonstrates the ability to present the achieved results and create quality engineering works primarily by independent elaboration of a diploma thesis, the defense of which is a part of the SFE. Upon successful completion of the study, the graduate is ready for a creative work in the field of research and development but will also find employment in management and managerial positions in companies or organizations whose activities are related to automotive electronics. The scope and comprehensive concept of automotive electronics in this study program is unique and offers its graduates a wide range of jobs in a highly promising field of modern automotive technology, including autonomous vehicle control, communication with satellite and mobile networks, vehicle control systems, modern technologies implemented in batteries and powertrains, and others, with respect to the current high demands on the environment.

Profession characteristics

Graduates of the master's degree program "Automotive Electronics and Electromobility" are ready to define and creatively solve theoretical and practical problems in the field, plan engineering activities of creative nature, propose procedures for their implementation, and independently solve complex engineering tasks. Therefore, graduates will find employment mainly in research, development, design, construction, operation and testing of automotive electronics in specialized companies and organizations. However, the comprehensive concept and wide scope of the study program also offers graduates employment in related areas of electronics (communications, electric drives, control systems, sensors, etc.) and also provides a good basis for management and managerial functions in the field. Teaching in English prepares graduates to work in foreign and international companies.

Study plan creation

Courses are evaluated according to ECTS credits. The credit expresses an approximate weekly student's workload for the course. Credits for a given course are obtained after the prescribed completion, i.e. after awarding a credit, classified credit, or by passing an exam under the conditions of the BUT Rules of Study and Examination, the internal standard of the Rules for Organization of Studies at FEEC and the composition and content individually defined in each course.
In a two-year master study, the student must earn at least 120 credits in the specified credit composition:
90 credits in compulsory courses,
25 credits in compulsory elective (PV) courses,
5 credits in elective courses.
Obligatory courses are usually completed by the student in semesters and years as stated in the curriculum. If a student fails to complete a compulsory course in the prescribed manner, he / she must register it again in the following year of his / her studies.
The student chooses to select PV courses in individual semesters so that at the end of his / her bachelor's degree he / she has at least the prescribed minimum of credits in each group of PV courses, while not obtaining the minimum number of credits in one group of PV courses cannot be compensated by exceeding the number of credits obtained in another group of PV courses.
Elective courses extend the general knowledge of students. Courses are chosen by the student himself or herself from a full-faculty offer (FEEC departments) or from the other faculties of VUT (so-called free courses) and can pass them in any year or semester of master study. Elective courses include Physical Education. If a student has not successfully completed an elective course, he / she may or may not write another academic year in the next academic year.
Students have to obtain the corresponding electrical engineering qualification at the beginning of their study.

Availability for the disabled

All lecture rooms at the FEEC BUT allow disabled access; students, however, must meet the medical standards to acquire the necessary electrotechnical qualifications. In laboratory classes and practicals, students are required to independently operate measuring instruments and related equipment without endangering human health or damaging property.
