English Pre-Intermediate Lower 1 (winter)

At the beginning of the school year, students will write a placement teest and will be appointed to the group corresponding to the level of their knowledge (from Elementary to Upper-Inermediate). We use the New Opportunities Students' Book and Workbook at all four levels.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Ideally, students will learn 7 - 8 lessons from New Opportunities per semester.

Prerequisites

Students have to know English at least the the false beginner level; as for the maximum required knowledge, there is a course even for those at the FCE or CAE level.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations..

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Students will write 1 - 3 short assignments during the semester, including the potential rewrites recommened by the course teacher - these will not be classified.
Final test mapping the knowledge of grammar and vocabulary from the units we have covered during the semester plus the assigned reading.
Students who will not have handed in the written assignments (even though they passed the final test) will not be classified.
The texts assigned for homework will only be submitted via the given ftp.
Students have to register their exam dates through the Apollo system.
Those who faill to register will not be classified.
Those who register and will not attend the exam without a prior 24-hour written notice will get an F.
Students are entitled for one regular and two resit exam dates.

Aims

At each level, students are highly encourage to COMMUNICATE. We ignore mistakes, we don't like shyness.
Maximum possible vocabulary acquired during the minimal time of 12 lessons per semester is the crucial outcome.

Students can miss two classes per semester.
