Profile

The primary educational objective of the study is to prepare graduates who have both potential for the development of their own entrepreneurial activities at the small-company level and qualification to occupy positions responsible for the development of activities related to the entrepreneurial activities of larger companies, and/or development of other organizations. The concept of theoretical education and practical training develops interdisciplinary knowledge and skills of the graduates, creating potential for their widespread application in developing all key functions of the company and formulation of business models. Interdisciplinarity principle is understood as a connection of economic and managerial views applied to entrepreneurial projects. In this context, development of entrepreneurial knowledge within the meaning of the base of the economic-social development of the economy of the state and enhancement of competitiveness at the level of companies and economic system define general social objective of the field of study. The objective of complex building of entrepreneurial competences, which the field of study offers, is to guarantee that graduates will fully understand economic, managerial and social interactions of the entrepreneurial activity. From the practical orientation of the field of study, the principal objective is that students gain real practical experience in entrepreneurship already during studies. Applied learning approaches are chosen to enhance maximum possible effectiveness of the educational process, developing competences of graduates on the basis of interconnection of practical training, individual, and group education.

Key learning outcomes

Acquired knowledge, skills and competences of the graduate can be classified into the following areas:
• Expert general theoretical:
o knowledge – demonstrates theoretical and conceptual knowledge needed for identification and analysis of entrepreneurial problems in the context of the global market and market economy, properly understands and defines the role of entrepreneurial activities and entrepreneurial entities in the globalized market economy and their socio-economic importance, sets-out and understands mathematical tools and their importance for analysis for the needs of entrepreneurial activities, understands the importance of macroeconomic indicators and defines their impact on the entrepreneurial activity;
o skills – applies broader economic-theoretical knowledge at the level of activity of entrepreneurial entities, identifies current economic quantities from the point of the entrepreneurship entity, applies mathematical approaches to analysis of the relevant fields;
o competence – considers wider economic context of business environment development and evaluates its impact on the entrepreneurial activity.

• Expert economic:
o knowledge – defines and critically evaluates economic categories, understands and delimitates elements of the company financial management, influencing entrepreneurial activities, clearly understands and defines accounting and tax aspects of the entrepreneurial activity;
o skills – applies legislation at the level needed for start-up and development of entrepreneurial activity, applies knowledge of accounting and taxes to ensure standard operation of the small company;
o competence – financial and economic management of the small company.

• Entrepreneurship:
o knowledge – defines the economic, financial and legal framework of entrepreneurship, is able to establish functions needed for management and development of the entrepreneurial entity and ensuring of activities with the business characteristics, defines alternatives to entry into the entrepreneurial activities and explains their specific features, determines factors of business environment influencing activity of the company and lays down principles of development of relations of the entrepreneurial entity with stakeholders in all stages of the company development, creates structure of the business plan and approaches to its formulation;
o skills – identifies business opportunity, evaluates potential of the company development and cooperation with partners and investors both on the local and global markets, adopts procedures for launching products on the market and their innovations in the area of products and services, prefers creative and innovative entrepreneurial approaches based on the critical assessment of possibilities, taking into account potential risks at the level of domestic and international markets;
o competence – draws up a business plan incl. its implementation, defines business model and its practical application, management of development of entrepreneurial activities in all stages of the company development.

• Managerial and leadership:
o knowledge – defines and critically evaluates managerial approaches and principles of management for development of entrepreneurial activities, defines methods and procedures used in the key managerial functions to ensure the development of entrepreneurial activity;
o skills – on the basis of critical analytical evaluation of the market situation defines objectives and justified approaches to the problem solution, works out action and strategic plans for implementation of company activities, effectively applies team work and principles of management and control both at the level of the company and international cooperation, selects adequate tools supporting management of entrepreneurial activities, applies principle of management in the global and multicultural business environment, is able to evaluate and delimitate approaches to boost competitivenes

The graduate from the bachelor’s degree program “Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development” possesses knowledge and skills needed to start and develop entrepreneurial activity either as a small trade business or as a newly established trading company. The graduate identifies, creates and evaluates global market business opportunities and can devise methods of their utilization, including formulation of the relevant business plan. The graduate precisely defines global social and economic market influences on entrepreneurial activities and is able to adopt adequate measures. The graduate applies an analytical approach to find solution to problems related to the entrepreneurial activity.
To manage entrepreneurial activities, set up and develop own company, the graduate follows procedures to obtain and manage all necessary resources. The graduate is able to design relevant entrepreneurial model. The graduate knows, understands, defines and sets governance processes of newly established or developing business entities. The graduate is able to develop and apply approaches to stimulate entrepreneurial activities in a manner corresponding with the relevant stage of the company growth. The graduate defines position of his/her company both in the market value system and socio-economic context of the business environment.
The graduate has experience and possesses skills acquired by his/her own entrepreneurial activity and has experience with application of theoretical concepts and knowledge in the real business environment. Competencies of the graduate build on the acquired team-work skills as well as interaction between the team and the company with customers, suppliers, competitors, business partners, and other external stakeholders.

Entry requirements

Admission to the bachelor’s degree program “Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development” is governed by the directive of the dean on admission to the bachelor’s and follow-up master’s degree programs. The admission test, except for students who can be released from the admission test and enrolled in the course in harmony with § 11 of the directive of the dean on admission, is written (hereinafter referred to as the “admission test”). The admission test consists of two parts – general knowledge screening test and English language test. Structure of both tests is as follows: the applicant chooses one of the alternative responses offered, only one is correct. Screening test lasts 45 minutes and contains 25 tasks with four alternative responses. On the test, an applicant scores + 4 points for each correct answer, no answer scores no point and -2 points for each incorrect answer, i.e., the highest score possible is 100. Language test lasts 20 minutes and contains 25 questions with four alternative responses. The correct answer scores one point, none/incorrect response scores no point, i.e., the highest score possible is 25. The highest score possible from both tests is 125.
