FEKTAbbreviation: BC-TLIAcad. year: 2011/2012
Programme: Electrical, Electronic, Communication and Control Technology
Length of Study: 3 years
Accredited from: Accredited until: 31.12.2011
Profile
Students are introduced to practical applications of knowledge of conventional and mobile communication, intelligent networks and transmission of information in high-speed systems. They are familiar with the processing and transmission of multimedia signals, the structure of diverse types of telecommunication services and the construction and functions of end-user communication devices. In applied informatics, students learn about Internet technology and services, computer network architecture and its connectivity to other communication systems including mobile and fixed networks. Instruction is provided primarily by the Department of Telecommunication (UTKO). A wide range of optional courses along with an individual technical project and the bachelor's final work enable students to specialize in technologies of mobile and conventional communication and information technology. With respect to their professional interests, students can also focus on multimedia and hypermedia services, i.e. the processing and transmission of text, speech, sound and image. Moreover, they can acquire relevant knowledge of mobile communication and instrumentation. In order to broaden their knowledge, students can choose additional courses offered in other branches of study in the bachelor's degree programme at FEEC BUT and the Faculty of Information Technology (FIT) and also language, economics, management and ecology courses.
Key learning outcomes
The graduate possesses good knowledge in the area of communication and information devices or systems. He/She is made familiar with their design, operation and application. The spectrum of his knowledge embraces data on transmitted signals such as acoustic or image signals, on general data signals, their processing and subsequent technical realization of devices and systems. He knows the structure and operation of various services in mobile and fixed telecommunication and computer networks. The graduate orients himself/herself in problems of communication and information technologies. He is sufficiently knowledgeable also in the related areas of radio communications, instrumentation and microelectronics. Thanks to the broadly conceived basics of his application-oriented studies, he is well prepared to accommodate to all concrete requirements in his future professional work, also in other areas of electronics and electrical engineering. Graduates in this field of bachelor studies find application as operations specialists, particularly in the areas of information transmission and processing, the Internet, classical communication and multimedia and hypermedia services. They can work in telecommunications companies, for operators or providers of services in classical and mobile communication networks, for Internet operators or for other subjects involved in applied informatics, including information system design and realization. In addition to the knowledge of technical problems, they are prepared to perform lower executive or managerial functions. The markedly practice-oriented university education makes it possible for the graduates to prove useful in production, operation and service areas, and provides a good basis for possible complementation of theoretical knowledge by subsequent MSc studies.
Occupational profiles of graduates with examples
The graduates of TELEINFORMATICS have a profound knowledge of communication and information appliances and systems. They are familiar with their design, construction, operation and application. Their knowledge ranges from the transmission and processing of sound, video and other data signals, to the technical realization of appliances and systems. They are familiar with the structure and manipulation of systems within mobile and fixed telecommunication and computer networks. The graduates are qualified in the area of communication and information technologies. A broad scope of application-oriented study ensures high adaptability of graduates to specific requirements of their future professions, also in other areas of electronics and electrical engineering. The graduates of this branch may find future employment as field specialists mainly in the area of transmission and processing of information, Internet, conventional communication or multimedia and hypermedia services. The can work for telecommunication companies, operators and providers of services in conventional and mobile communication networks, Internet providers, and other companies specializing in the area of applied informatics including the design and realization of information systems. In all these fields, they are prepared to assume lower executive and management positions. A strong practical orientation of study enables direct engagement of graduates into production, operation and service processes and provides them with a good background to increase their theoretical knowledge in the follow-up master’s degree programme.
