Study aims

The study program Telecommunication and Information Systems offers a university study in the field of electrical engineering with a closer focus on the issues of traditional and mobile communications, intelligent networks and the Internet of Things. The aim is to acquaint students
- with the basic principles and methods of mathematics, electrical engineering and circuit theory, physics, with the basics of working with electrical measuring instruments,
- acquire basic application knowledge of analog technology and the use of integrated analog circuits in specific applications,
- an overview of the basic types and structures of communication networks intended for the transmission of calls, data and images, as well as in techniques for the transmission of other information,
- with the areas of telecommunication networks, especially data networks (architecture, communication techniques, methods of information transmission and routing, principles of sharing network resources, means of service implementation, network management),
- with the basics of digital circuits and teach them practical procedures for the design of circuit connections of combinational, asynchronous and synchronous digital systems,
- with the basics of cryptography, information and communication security,
- with the principle of operation and the use of analogue and digital sound equipment, computer sound processing systems and their installation in sound studios,
- processing of acoustic signals from their origin through the transformation into an electrical signal and back to the acoustic signal to the final auditory perception of the listener.
The aim is to provide students with practical experience and basic theoretical knowledge about multimedia communication services in current transmission networks.
A partial goal is also the preparation of students for follow-up master's studies.

Graduate profile

The graduate of the study program Telecommunication and Information Systems will gain, thanks to a suitable combination of knowledge from telecommunications, informatics and electrical engineering, broader knowledge from the whole field of information and communication technologies. The graduate has quality knowledge and skills in the field of communication and information equipment or systems, acquires theoretical foundations and expertise in mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, measurement, applied informatics, digital technology, basic knowledge for description, analysis and design of combinational and sequential logic networks in digital systems, theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of sensors and methods of measuring the most frequent non-electrical quantities, including the design of the concept of measurement, processing and evaluation of results. He will gain theoretical foundations in the field of cryptography and computer security, as well as specific application knowledge of the construction of electronic devices with an emphasis on understanding the physical nature of the problems discussed.
The graduate will be able
- describe the properties of electrical circuit elements and their models and apply the basic circuit laws in the analysis of linear and nonlinear electrical circuits, describe the basic properties of digital circuits and design any system of combination technology,
- describe and explain basic communication models and methods of information transmission, basic network structures, express their performance parameters, general architecture of systems communication, describe basic principles of multiple use of transmission paths and methods of two-way communication, explain operation of physical, link and network layers of transmission systems, describe selected tasks and protocols of the application layer of transmission systems.
- distinguish the context of solutions of access and transport networks and their means, apply analog and digital modulations, explain the concepts of sampling, quantization and coding, discuss the sampling theorem,
- competently analyze and design security solutions for information and communication systems,
- describe types of operating systems, define kernel and system calls, process and thread,
- describe completely the issue of acoustic signal transmission,
- explain the principles of operation of PZS and EPS systems and detectors, video surveillance systems, access and electronic payment systems,
- understand and describe the basic elements of microprocessor systems, design embedded devices, controlled by n-bit microcontroller, test the function of microprocessor systems, analyze the numerical complexity of digital data processing algorithms, program basic control algorithms in symbolic address language and C language, technically use microprocessor circuits,

- describe the principles and internal architecture of active elements of communication networks,
- describe the general mobile communication system and explain the function of the individual blocks,
- explain the fundamental differences between commercial mobile networks and proprietary technologies for the transmission of M2M data within IIoT (Industry Internet of Things) and Industry 4.0.
The graduate will be able to
- express the spectrum of the sampled signal, measure the parameters of converged networks, set up a SIP exchange and digital transmission equipment, orient oneself in higher-order systems, evaluate the development of converged networks,
- apply the acquired knowledge and skills in the field of digital signal processing in the management, maintenance, design of large networks using different types of transmission media,
- operate common security systems, design a simple PZS system,
- apply knowledge of control mechanisms and protocols in the basic setting and control of current network elements.

Profession characteristics

Graduates of the study program will find employment in the labor market mainly in technical positions focused on the design, construction and management of information and communication systems, such as telecommunications companies, operators or service providers in traditional and mobile communication networks, Internet connection providers and services and other entities. dealing with applied informatics, including the design and implementation of information systems. In all these areas, they are also able to perform lower technical-managerial and managerial functions. Highly practically oriented university education enables the deployment of graduates in production, operational or service technical practice. Emphasis is also placed on the language preparation of students, especially on professional English.

Study plan creation

Courses are evaluated according to ECTS credits. The credit expresses an approximate weekly student's workload for the course. Credits for a given course are obtained after the prescribed completion, i.e. after awarding a credit, classified credit, or by passing an exam under the conditions of the BUT Rules of Study and Examination, the internal standard of the Rules for Organization of Studies at FEEC and the composition and content individually defined in each course.

In a three-year bachelor study, the student must earn at least 180 credits in the specified credit composition:
135 credits in compulsory courses,
34 credits in specified groups of compulsory elective (PV) courses,
9 credits in elective courses.

Obligatory courses are usually completed by the student in semesters and years as stated in the curriculum. If a student fails to complete a compulsory course in the prescribed manner, he / she must register it again in the following year of his / her studies.
Compulsory elective courses of profiling fundamentals (PVA) are field-oriented professional courses that profile the student into narrower areas of his / her interests.
Other compulsory (PVB) courses are other professional courses included in the offers of the departments of FEEC BUT. Their goal is to extend students' professional knowledge.
The student chooses to select PV courses in individual semesters so that at the end of his / her bachelor's degree he / she has at least the prescribed minimum of credits in each group of PV courses, while not obtaining the minimum number of credits in one group of PV courses cannot be compensated by exceeding the number of credits obtained in another group of PV courses.
During the study, students must complete two English courses (English for Bachelors, English for Electrical Engineering).
Elective courses extend the general knowledge of students. Courses are chosen by the student himself or herself from a full-faculty offer (FEEC departments) or from the other faculties of VUT (so-called free courses) and can pass them in any year or semester of bachelor study. Elective courses include Physical Education. If a student has not successfully completed an elective course, he / she may or may not write another academic year in the next academic year.
Students must obtain the corresponding electrotechnic qualification at the beginning of their study.

Availability for the disabled

All lecture rooms at the FEEC BUT allow disabled access; students, however, must meet the medical standards to acquire the necessary electrotechnical qualifications. In laboratory classes and practicals, students are required to independently operate measuring instruments and related equipment without endangering human health or damaging property.

What degree programme types may have preceded

The graduates may continue in a master's study programme.
